Enjoy the natural beauty surrounding this meticulously restored historic stone farm house. Close to incredible South Mountain hiking trails including Catoctin National Park and the Appalachian trail. Also situated in the middle Civil War history, Gettysburg (20 minutes by car). 15 minutes to Ski Liberty Resort & 40 minutes to Whitetail Ski Resort.
This is an 1800 stone house with two steep and winding staircases. If you have mobility issues this is not a suitable home for you. The basement, with hand hewn chestnut log ceiling, holds the laundry, gale room and daybed The second floor is the kitchen, living room, quarter bath and access to a mahogany deck with spectacular views. The third floor holds two bedrooms, office space and a full bath with shower and clawfoot tub. Step outsid to a mahogany deck with spectacular views. There is a spring house and two spring fed ponds, a railroad track runs at the bottom of the property, about five acres away. you will hear a slow moving freight train pass once or twice a day.
Also known as the “Benchoof Homestead”, History tells us that General Robert E. Lee stopped at this farm on his retreat from Gettysburg in 1863. His confederate amy traveled Furnace road, adjacent to this property. Monterey Pass, the site of a major Union/Confederate skirmish is in this area.
